The Chamber
For Marlow
Goal
Picture was locked. The mix made every office sound cheap. Rebuild the soundtrack so the film felt like it belonged to the people in it.
Process
Marlow had a founder documentary with picture locked and a scratch mix that flattened every room into the same small box.
We recut the location effects, edited dialogue for the actual acoustics of the offices, and mixed to a theater, not to a laptop. The score is a bed, not a speech. When someone closes a door on the third floor, you should hear which building you are in.
Sound is the cheapest way to make a picture feel expensive, and the fastest way to make it feel amateur. This job was the former: not more music, more air, more specific rooms.
Outcome
The film screened at an internal offsite and later on the careers page. Leadership stopped apologizing for how it sounded.
